What appears most noticeable about the wonderful African music is that it relies heavily on percussion materials, particularly on the African drums. 1 may also notice and appreciate the intense, upbeat and fast-paced rhythmic style used in playing the African drums. This style of playing these unique instruments is most especially evident amongst the various tribes in Africa.
These days the African drum is utilised for entertainment as well as uniting communities. The djembe drum and also the talking drums in specific are becoming common worldwide and are utilised in drum circles accompanied by other instruments for example the Didgeridoo and other contemporary musical instruments because of the effective sound and versatility. These drums are capable of producing remarkable low tones along with crackling high tones and are now made from distinct materials together with animal skins.

Why do the snares on my supraphonic snare drum keep loosening?
I have a late 60's ludwig LM 400 supraphonic. I don't have much experience changing the actual wires so I did it for the first time recently. So, once i was finished I flipped the throwoff and started playing. It sounded good but after about 10 minutes I noticed the sound started to change. So I took off my headphones and realized the wires had loosened almost completely. I tightened the snares and the same thing happened. I checked the cord I used to attach them and it seemed to be knotted and tightened and looked normal. The but plate was on securely and Im pretty sure it wasn't loosening from there. I checked where I attached the cord to the throwoff and it seemed to be okay. I read somewhere that this could be a result from the actual throwoff loosening. Since the throwoff is the original p83 could this be loosening? And would a new one help? I used tama 20 strand snappy snares. Could switching to say, puresound snares help due to the higher quality?
Thanks!
New snare strainers will stretch a bit but not a lot. Sounds to me like the string was stretching out (cord) most snares employ a clear tape to secure it to the throw off and the plate. It is made of a very strong material that does not stretch. It is possible that the throw off is getting old and not holding tension as it used too. Take it to a local drum shop and see if they can help
The different materials used for the drums will give the drum its sound characteristics. Quite a few of these drums are still handmade by the tribal peoples of African, which I may well add are far greater than those which are mass produced in a factory. There is nothing to beat an original handmade African drum that's head if created from either cow or goats hide. The base of the African drums can be made from cherry, oak, PVC or maple plus the standard base usually has conventional African carvings. African drums are indeed really cool but also produces inspiring beats just like the Ludwig Supraphonic Snare you might see ont this page.
The Djembe: Queen Of All African Drums. Amongst the selection of African drums, the djembe drum is hailed as the most common and frequently used by the African tribes. It also goes by the names jembe, djenbe, sanbanyi, yembe or jymbe. This instrument is made from a piece of wood that is carved into a goblet shape. It is hollow all throughout and the best is covered having a piece of skin. The instrument is played with bare hands only. Over the years, the djembe has been the most sought following instruments inside the Western portion of the hemisphere. Its popularity has even inspired the master drum makers from all over the world.
